USEFUL PACKAGING TIPS FOR YOUR PARCELS, FREIGHT PARCELS AND PALLETS
We offer some tips for packaging your items before despatching the goods to their destinations:
PARCELS / EXCESS BAGGAGE
- Use a rigid box with flaps intact.
- Choose the size of the box according to its content. Under-filled boxes are likely to collapse, overloaded ones may burst.
- Always use high quality materials for your package. Consider strength, cushioning, and durability.
- Choose boxes made of corrugated cardboard, with good quality outer liners.
- Wrap all items separately.
- Put goods in the centre of a package ensuring they don't touch the sides. Your item should be well cushioned on all sides.
- Make use of cushioning materials, especially to stop your packages contents from moving.
- Use strapping, when suitable, as a good way to seal and secure your box.
- Use strong tape designed for shipping if strapping is not available.
- When re-using a box remove all old labels including any old hazardous materials indicators.
- Place powders in strong plastic bags, securely sealed and then packed in a rigid box.
- Use "arrow-up" labels for non-solid materials.
- Repack your items properly. Many goods are sold in the original manufacturers packaging which may not be suitable for carriage.
- The minimum size for handling by Net2Logistics is the equivalent of A4 size envelope.
- Always to pack small items in envelopes or jiffy bags as appropriate.
- Protect your data discs, audio and videotapes with soft cushioning material around each item.
- Complete the address label clearly and completely, using capital letters when handwriting labels to improve readability for delivery personnel.
- Place a duplicate address label inside the package.
- Do not use bags made of fabric or cloth.
- Do not use adhesive tape to seal your parcel.
- Do not consider "Fragile" and "Handle with care" labels as a substitute for careful packaging. They are only appropriate for information purposes.
FREIGHT PARCELS
- Plywood boxes are strong but light. Plywood boxes are suitable for all means of transport and ideal for holding multiple consignments of small or irregular shaped products.
- Supplied as a flat pack, the boxes can be easily stored and re-used.
- Plywood boxes sit comfortably on a standard pallet, ensuring safe transportation from collection to delivery.
- Strapping is suitable for a wide variety of applications from sealing parcels and cartons, securing heavy palletised loads or to group and bundle irregular shaped items.
- Extremely strong and stretch resistant. The modern alternative to steel. Ideal for sealing and securing heavy export consignments
PALLETISED FREIGHT
- Palletising - Transported palletised goods should be stabilised to ensure loads are kept together and stretch film wrapping is the most cost effective method.
- Blown stretch film hand rolls are ideal for securing irregular shaped palletised loads.
- Wrapping pallets in stretch film protects products from dust and moisture.
- Edge guards are designed to fit along the edges and corners of strapped or stretch wrapped palletised goods.
- Do use non-transparent, coloured or black stretch film to give added security to high value consignments.
- Do not place breakable objects in the boxes without securing them with protective packaging
Just remember the basic rule, the more packaging the better protection.
